A friend approached me asking to shoot a commercial for the company he works for, Storage Village. They wanted a 30 second spot to show on the web and advertise their various locations. It was a fun shoot and the ones who helped were nothing but enthusiastic. Everyone had a good attitude and it really contributed to the flow of the shoot. Continue reading

Everyone talks about how the Rode Mic is the standard for HDSLR audio, but there is one big problem for me; it is a stereo microphone. The reason this is a problem is because my wireless lav is stereo also and the Zoom H4n only offers one stereo output but two XLR outputs. After a lot of research I found the Azden SGM – 1X. Why is the title of this article so obvious? Mostly because I want you all to know that the lenses I am about to talk about are ones I only have experience with on the Canon 7D. Different cameras may produce different results although I am sure the only difference will be the focal length if shooting with the 5D Mark II. In my experience so far primes are the best due to the speed of the glass and how crisp your images will be. Continue reading

I spent a couple days this week in Conneticut with Dave Ogden for a MetaMedia shoot. I was equipped with my 7D, Indirailsystem Railspro, Zacuto z-finder, Sigma 30mm, Nikkor 85mm, Zoom h4n, and a Sony lav mic. We rented a Nikkor 135mm, Canon 16-35mm L, and panasonic monitor kit from Visual Edge. Video and audio were recorded with SanDisk cards. Until one of them fails me, I won’t use anything else. Everything was transported using Pelican cases (minus the rig which was in a duffle bag). I can’t emphasize how awesome these cases are. Definitely worth the extra money. Continue reading
